Stape - 31st August

Ringing updatesPosted by Ian Nicholson Sat, September 01, 2012 11:36:06
As the site at Stape hadn't been visited for a few weeks, and with continual westerly winds likely to make the coast unproductive, we decided to give the garden at Stape a try, which turned out to be a good decision. We processed a total of 143 birds of 21 species (115 new and 28 retraps). The star turn was a Tree Pipit - the first for this site, and there was a good supporting cast of a Nuthatch, a Swallow, several Chiffchaffs and Willow Warblers, and a remarkable 12 Great Spotted Woodpeckers (seven new and five retraps). The seven new birds brings the total GRSWO's ringed at this site to 47 since we began ringing there in January 2010.

The total number of birds ringed at the site now stands at 1,860 of 35 species, which is pretty impressive garden ringing by any standards!
