Ringing updatesPosted by Peter Dunn Wed, September 26, 2012 19:00:35

JMC, IN, LM and myself had nets in the usual ringing lanes in the top scrub for the morning, with reports of birds seen all around us. We were catching Dunnocks, Robins, Greenfinches and Goldfinches and had tantalising views of both Greenish Warbler and Red-breasted Flycatcher in the willow bush next to the pond net, but they managed to get through and avoid the nets. We were destined to continue with the 'bread & butter' birds all morning getting the occasional Redstart and three bright gaudy and long-winged Willow Warblers. Around 1.30pm we made a decision to furl as we were getting blank rounds and Lucy went into the nets for a last check and came out with a Greenfinch in one hand and THE Greenish Warbler in the other. Sadley for Lucy, Ian was next in line for this species and we processed it before calling the birding masses to view and photo before its release. We kept to the allotted 25 mins to release and most got to see it.
